Asian Games 2018: Prajnesh Gunneswaran settles for Bronze Medal in tennis

Prajnesh Gunneswaran settled for the bronze medal in men’s singles tennis event at Asian Games 2018. After he lost his semifinal match to Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin in Jakarta on Friday.

Gunneswaran became only the 6th India to win a men’s singles medal at the Asian Games.

Prajnesh Gunneswaran, who is ranked 161st in the world, fought hard but went down 2-6, 2-6 to world No.75 Istomin in 86 minutes. Prajnesh Gunneswaran was no match to the strength and power of Istomin.

Istomin not only held his serves with clam but broke Prajnesh twice in both the sets to comfortably take the win.

Prajnesh Gunneswaran (born 12 November 1989) is a young Indian Tennis player. He has won 8 ITF titles in singles and 1 ITF in doubles. He represented Indian Davis Cup Team in Davis Cup 2017.

The 28-year-old from Chennai has regularly worked his way up the ranks through this year, from a Davis Cup thriller to his 1st Challenger title.

With Prajnesh’s bronze medal, India’s medals tally added up to 25 medals –

6 gold medals.
5 silver medals.
and 14 bronze medals.
