Ind vs Eng: KL Rahul equals Rahul Dravid to become Indian fielder with most catches in Test series
KL Rahul joined the cricket history books on Saturday when he took an athletic catch at mid-on to dismiss Stuart Broad on Day 2 of the 5th Test match between India and England at the Oval.
The dismissal was KL Rahul’s 13th catch of the series and no other cricketer has done that in England. The past record belonged to South Africa’s John Ikin who took 12 catches way back in 1951.
It was KL Rahul 13th catch in the fifth match series which put him on par with one of the world’s best slip fielder-Rahul Dravid, who took the same number of catches against Australia 13-year back in 2004-05 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rahul Dravid through Achieved the milestone in a 4th-match series.
The other two fielders who shared the record (13 catches in a Test series) are West Indies’Brian Lara and Australia’s Bob Simpson, but the couple did it twice in their career. Lara achieved the feat against South Africa(1957-58) and West Indies(1960-61).
Australia’s Jack Gregory held the overall record with 15 catches, which he took in the (1920-21) Ashes at home. Jack Gregory was followed by fellow Aussie Greg Chappell, who took 14 catches against England in the (1974-75) Ashes.
Rahul will have a chance to match or better the overall record in England’s 2nd innings if it happens in the ongoing Test.
